LIGHTHOUSE BEING PULLED DOWN - UNSAFE AFTER DAMAGE - NOT TO BE REBUILT TILL THE WAR IS OVER.
Scarborough lighthouse, one of the landmarks of the East Coast, is to be demolished.
The structure was badly damaged during the bombardment, and an expert has advised the Harbour Commissioners that in the condition in which it was left it would have been distinctly unsafe.
Accordingly its demolition was inevitable, and the work of pulling it down began on Saturday.
It will not be rebuilt till after the war in over.
