In January 2024, a small WW2 RAF Service Issue New Testament Bible was donated to us. Inside the cover was the name G Richmond and Spreight Lane Steps. We researched this Scarborough man and found the following story.
Geoffrey Harry Richmond (1/9/1922 - 9/4/1994)
Married to Margaret Brown, nee Provins, 1953. 2 children - Alan Roberts &.
Served in bomber command and won the comptition to design a memorial medal. Only 3 were struck in silver of which he had one. He was in the Volunteer Reserve as a wireless operator and in ground based operations.
His parents: Henry Richmond (1892-1970) and Beatrice Darling (1895-) - Lived in Garfield Road, Scarborough.
Henry had 5 siblings: Arthur (1894), Edith Emily (1897-1946), Alice (1888-1897), Albert Edward (1902-1954), Tom.
Henry served in WW1, ID194622, 5th Yorkshire Regiment Labour Corps.

Alan Richmond was the owner of the Yorkshire Coble 'Gratitude WY97' that was part of the Queen's Flotilla on the Thames for her Golden Jubilee in 2012. She also made an appearance on the West Pier for Seafest.
Alan was in the merchant navy and the RNLI. His son, Alan, worked for the Maersk shipping line.
